Bob Gamble has been a broadcast journalist since 1947, and headed news departments in Minnesota, Nebraska and Oklahoma before becoming Channel 6 News Director in 1959. Under his direction, WRTV and its staff have received virtually every national award given in professional journalism recognition…including the coveted George Foster Peabody award.

Channel 6 News has been designated “Newsfilm Station of the Year” by the National Press Photographers Association and the Indiana News Photographers Association on numerous occasions. In one period, WRTV was designated “Newsfilm Station of the Year” for seven consecutive years by the INPA. There have been two national duPont awards for excellence in news, documentaries and public affairs; two National Headliners Club awards for outstanding coverage of local news; five national awards from the Radio Television News Directors Association for excellence in editorializing; a national award for editorializing from Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalism society. Other honors came from the U.S. Conference of Mayors, American Medical Association, Ohio State University and Indianapolis Press Club.

Gamble is a former president of the national Radio Television News Directors Association (1965-66) and a member of Sigma Delta Chi. He’s a native of Jefferson, Iowa and a graduate of Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
