Knightstown banner publisher dies

Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame member Tom Mayhill died June 26 in Greenfield at the age of 95.
Mayhill was the longtime owner of the Knightstown Banner, which he purchased in 1946. He served as publisher of the weekly newspaper for more than 40 years, and expanded the Mayhill Publications operations to eventually include Farmweek and AntiqueWeek.
His parents owned the Delphi Journal, and Mayhill started his career at age 11 whe he covered sports for the newspaper. By high school, he was sports editor there. He graduated from the University of Illinois, then served as a lieutenant and gunnery officer during World War II.
Mayhill was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 1991.
