IJHF board accepting 2020 class nominations

The Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame is seeking nominations of accomplished journalists for 2020 members through Oct. 31.

Reserved for those writers, publishers, broadcasters and others who have earned a place in Indiana journalism history, the organization inducts only a few new members each year. The IJHF board of directors reviews nominations and makes final decisions, and new members will be inducted in a ceremony in May 16 in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame was established in 1966 by the Indiana Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists as a way to recognize those who have made significant contributions to the field of journalism. It is based in Franklin Hall on the campus of Indiana University-Bloomington.

Members range from famous broadcasters and writers to lesser-known, small-town publishers and educators. Some members are figures from history, and members’ contributions reflect nearly 200 years of journalism in Indiana.

The board also will accept nominations for the Distinguished Service to Journalism Award, established in 2011 to honor individuals who have made contributions to journalism through such ancillary areas as technology, business or freedom of information.

A 17-member board makes selections for both awards based on nominations. 

Include in your nomination:

  • Nominee name

  • What is the nominee’s Indiana connection(s)?

  • Is the nominee living or deceased (if deceased, the year, if known)?

  • Nominee’s current and/or past employment

  • Highlights of the nominee’s career, including awards received

  • Nominee’s contributions to journalism

  • Nominee’s contributions to society

  • Nominator’s name

  • Nominator’s telephone number, mail address and e-mail address

Additional letters of recommendation are encouraged in order to provide the board the information it needs to make the selections.
