Eunice Trotter
Eunice Trotter began working at the Indianapolis Recorder during her high school years. In 1987, she purchased controlling interest of that newspaper, one of the oldest African American newspapers in the country.
She was the first African American editor at The Indianapolis Star and held editing or reporting positions at several other newspapers, including the New York Post, Florida Today, The Palm Beach Post and the (Lafayette) Journal & Courier. For her work, Trotter has won numerous reporting and writing awards.
Trotter is author of several historical articles, and she received the Indiana Historical Society’s Dorothy Riker Historian Award. She recently published “Black in Indiana,” which received a first-place awards from the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana and the National Federation of Press Women. She is also a bowler. She lives in Indianapolis.
