Alan Horton to receive humanitarian award

Hall of fame member Alan Horton will receive Hodges University’s Humanitarian of the Year Award March 12 in Naples, Florida.

Horton served as a newspaper reporter, editor, publisher and Washingtoncorrespondent during this long career, including a stint as editor of the Naples Daily News, the Shelbyville News and the Evansville Press. At Scripps, he was senior vice president of newspapers for company and, at the time of his 2004 retirment, he was chairman of the Scripps Howard Foundation.

In Florida, Hodges has led several community groups, including the Community Foundation of Collier County, Yale Club of Southwest Florida, Forum Club and Champions for Learning.
