About Us

Established in 1966, the IJHF honors journalists from early days of statehood to present day.

Member Spotlight: Ruth Chin

Inducted 2014

The late Ruth Chin broke several glass ceilings during her seven decades taking photos for news organizations. The Chinese American from Muncie started taking photos at age 8, and she never stopped. She was the first female photographer to cover the Indiana High School State Basketball Championship. In 1951, she was the first female photographer to win the Bushemi Award, Indiana’s top news photography.

“I learn something from everything I do,” she once said, “Journalism is a wonderful occupation, because you never stop learning.”

Leadership,

Innovation,

Heroism

The nonprofit Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame depends on donors to support its efforts to honor Indiana’s journalists. As we celebrate notable careers, we also preserve the history of journalism in the Hoosier state and inspire journalists of the future.
